I remember when President Bill Clinton was in office. Those were rich times for the weekly “Saturday Night Live” television show, for there seemed an everlasting fount of presidential hijinks with which to incorporate into skits. In a weirdly similar way, our own zany hometown heroes, Councilors David Madore and Tom Mielke, show a flair for pursuing their own quirky personal interests, like affixing mottos within public buildings, to the exclusion of bland boring stuff, like accomplishing the people’s regular business.
From time to time I read in these pages some people chiding Editor Lou Brancaccio for frequently commenting on the antics of these two “leaders.” They want Brancaccio to stand down and leave the poor M&M boys alone, and they say there is really nothing further to bemoan. Seriously?
I hope Brancaccio, rather than relenting, continues to keep us informed of the idiocy that should not be occurring in the first place. Clearly the “Don’t Do Stupid Stuff” mugs need wider dissemination.
