Prep highlights: Woodland falls, but still wins 2A GSHL baseball title

Woodland came out of the short end of a slugfest with Mark Morris, but still claimed the 2A Greater St. Helens League baseball title.

The Beavers lost to Mark Morris 15-10 in a game that featured 26 hits, three doubles and three home runs.

Woodland (13-5, 8-3) got a boost from an unlikely source as last-place Washougal (7-9, 3-7) edged No. 2 Hudson’s Bay 2-1, giving the league title to the Beavers.

Cody Shepherd was 3 for 4 with two doubles, and Tristan Thomas was 2 for 4 with a home run and three RBI for Woodland.

Stars of the day

• Ryan Krout, Washougal baseball, pitched three-hit ball for six innings to earn the win and was 2 for 2 with a double at the plate in a 2-1 win over Hudson’s Bay.

• Jackson Wagner, Heritage baseball, had a two-run hit for the Timberwolves in a four-run sixth inning to help Heritage knock off Union 7-4.

• Adrianna Anderson, Hockinson softball, was 3 for 3 with a double, home run and five RBI plus was the winning pitcher in a 14-2 victory over Mark Morris.

• Julieta Rendon-Mendoza, Union golf, shot a personal-best 1-under-par 35 at Camas Meadows as the Titans posted a team score of 153.

• Mitch Lines, Hockinson baseball, pitched a complete game five-hitter with nine strikeouts in a 5-1 win at R.A. Long.

• Abby England, La Center softball, struck out 20 batters in a doubleheader sweep of Castle Rock. She was also a combined 4-for-8 with a double, triple and two RBI.

• Haley Michaud, Woodland softball, struck out 10 in a four-hit shutout over Washougal.

• Katie Schroeder and Emma Jimenez, Camas softball: Schroeder struck out 13 in a one-hitter, and Jimenez hit a three-run home run and drove in four runs in a 7-0 non-league win over Sandy, Ore.

• Blane Robb, Prairie baseball, had five strikeouts in a six-inning one-hitter.

• Hunter Bruno and Sam Jones, Camas baseball: Bruno got the win, throwing seven innings. Jones struck out three in bottom of the eighth in a 5-1 win over Skyview.

• Sawyer Bierscheid, La Center baseball, struck out 11 in a complete-game five-hit shutout, beating Castle Rock 3-0 in the first game of a doubleheader.
