Pedestrian fatally injured on Highway 99 in Hazel Dell

A pedestrian was fatally injured Saturday when he was struck by a vehicle while trying to cross Northeast Highway 99 in Hazel Dell, according to the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident occurred about 6 p.m. near Northeast 82nd Street, a bulletin from the Clark County Sheriff’s Office said.

Despite efforts by emergency crews and bystanders, the pedestrian was declared dead at the scene, the bulletin said.

The bulletin said witnesses told investigators that the pedestrian was wearing dark clothing and had been attempting to cross the highway in an unlit area.

The driver of the vehicle remained on scene and was cooperating with the investigation, the bulletin said. Names were not released.
