Clark men’s basketball opens with victory

Clark women's team edged out in their opener

Basketball season opened for the Clark College teams on the road on Friday with split results. 

MEN: Clark 93, at Tacoma 62 — The defending NWAC champs started where they left off last season as the Penguins opened the season with a victory.

The Penguins lead by as much as 20 points in the first half and finished with five players in double figures.

Returning player Bryan Berg led Clark with 21 points as the Penguins shot 59 percent from the field.

“It was a good team effort,” Clark coach Alex Kirk said. “In our first game out, we played well for each other and got lots of players in. We really clamped down defensively.”

Clark next plays at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Multnomah in Portland.

WOMEN: Walla Walla 67, Clark 65 — The Penguins opened their season with a narrow first-round loss at the Yakima Valley Tip-Off Tournament.

No details were reported from the game.

Clark will face Whatcom at 11 a.m. today in the consolation bracket.
