EVERETT — A man who shot at police in three Washington cities last year, wounding one officer, has been sentenced to 71 years in prison.

The Everett Daily Herald reports that Hans Hansen did not speak in court Tuesday before Snohomish County Superior Court Judge Ellen Fair handed down the sentence.

Hansen was suffering from severe depression and financial troubles when he shot at officers and police stations in Granite Falls, Lake Stevens and Marysville, all north of Seattle. His attorney said Hansen hoped the officers would kill him.

A jury this month convicted Hansen of first-degree assault and drive-by shooting, but the jurors couldn’t reach a verdict on an attempted murder charge.

Among the allegations were that Hansen shot an AK-47 at least 33 times at two Marysville police officers before firing at Sgt. Jim Maples’ patrol car, striking him in the leg.
