TACOMA — Seven cars on a BNSF freight train derailed in downtown Tacoma.
The News Tribune reports that the train was on its way from Pasco to Seattle on Thursday when seven empty flat cars came off the tracks.
BNSF spokesman Gus Melonas says the accident happened at about 3 p.m.
Melonas says no one was hurt and no hazardous materials leaked.
Five of the cars ended up on their sides and two were upright. Crews expected to have the cars back on the track by Friday.
The train had 106 cars total and 69 carried cargo. The rest were empty. Melonas says the cargo included diesel, ethanol, flour and minerals.
Other trains were not delayed by the derailment, because they were able to use an adjacent track, Melonas said.
