Emily Hain of Mountain View swimming and Jose Ignacio Perez of Hudson’s Bay tennis were voted The Columbian’s high school fall sports athletes of the week, sponsored by Athletes Corner, for the week ending Oct. 17.

Hain and Perez both collected 43 percent of the 8,039 votes cast to share the weekly honor.

Hain won the 200 individual and 100 butterfly and was two winning relays in a meet at LaCamas Swim & Sport. Perez capped league play with a win then was the singles runner-up in the 2A sub-district tournament.

The other nominees were Brooke Mosier of Union volleyball, Spencer Tibbits of Fort Vancouver golf and Ellie Walker of Columbia River soccer.

Nominees and the online ballot are posted at www.360preps.com each Monday and voting continues until 8 p.m. Thursday.

Athletes may be elected player of the week once during the regular season, and no athlete can be nominated for the honor in consecutive weeks.

A technical issue allowed this week’s vote to continue past the 8 p.m. deadline, which may have impacted the final results. As such, co-athletes of the week were declared.
