Letter: Murray’s record shows she cares

By Philip S. Parker, Vancouver

A couple of months ago in a letter to the editor, Gerald Rogers said that U.S. Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash., hasn’t been serving veterans “during her watch.” I disagree. She has visited veterans’ facilities. She put pressure on the Seattle VA hospital to prevent suicides on the mental wards. She fought to keep clinics open in Vancouver, Tacoma and Walla Walla. She has fought for homeless veterans and veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder. Google “Patty Murray becomes voice of veterans care” to read what the Seattle Times wrote about Murray and veterans in 2007.

The fact that she visited a stand-down for veterans event in Vancouver in August and doesn’t just concentrate on Seattle shows she cares about all veterans. We veterans need Murray to continue to fight for us Without people like her in Congress, veterans will lose out in the long run.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
