Stanford forward Foster Langsdorf scored one goal and assisted on another as the No. 16 Cardinal claimed a third consecutive shutout victory Sunday, 2-0 over visiting Virginia Commonwealth.

Langsdorf, a sophomore forward and Mountain View High School graduate who played for the Portland Timbers Academy, scored in the 27th minute against the Rams.

Eric Verso got the ball into the feet of Corey Baird, who turned at the corner of the 18 and lofted a perfect pass onto Langsdorf’s head, which he deposited near post. The goal was the second for the sophomore in his 17th career game.

“The first goal was an incredible cross by Corey and a wonderfully timed run by Foster,” Cardinal coach Jeremy Gunn told gostanford.com. “We’ve worked really hard on timing our runs in the box and as a program we’re really proud of it. It was great execution.”

Langsdorf also assisted on redshirt freshman Adam Mosharrafa’s first career goal in the 68th minute. Surrounded by three defenders and with his back to the goal, Langsdorf was able to use his heel and slide the ball to Mosharrafa, who was in the right place at the right time for the goal.

OSU’s Doholis garners Pac-12 weekly honor

Oregon State senior forward Mikhail Doholis was named Pacific-12 Conference Player of the Week for the final week of August after scoring the only goal of an overtime win Aug. 28 over Marquette and assisting on the lone goal of the Beavers’ victory Aug. 30 over Michigan State.

The Union High School graduate was also named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week for the same period.

“I like to cut in on my right, I found a little gap between a couple guys and thought I could split the seam,” Doholis told osubeavers.com about his goal against Marquette. “Luckily the ball bounced right. I saw the goalie cheating a little bit and curled it in. It was a good shot.”

Oregon State coach Steve Simmons called the game-winner “a little bit of magic.”

• Camas High School graduates Anthony Macchione and Niko DeVera have been playing for Akron University. Macchione has appeared in four games as a sophomore and has two goals this season, including an overtime golden goal in a 3-2 win Aug. 28 at Virginia Commonwealth. Devera has played four games, three starts, as a wide defender. He appeared in only two games as a freshman.
