Letter: New low for Republican Party

By Richard Carson, Brush Prairie
Published: September 14, 2015, 6:00am

Just when I thought the Clark County Republican Party had hit bottom they found a new low. They are seriously running a write-in candidate in Rep. Liz Pike, R-Camas, for county council chair. Why? In order to take out candidate Marc Boldt. Boldt was essentially excommunicated from the Republican Party when he had the audacity to think for himself and endorse a Democrat. So the party ran Councilors David Madore and Tom Mielke (aka the M&M Boys) instead. The M&M Boys took Clark County to a new low in cronyism by appointing Sen. Don Benton, R-Vancouver, to a cushy job with the county.

I didn’t vote for Boldt in the primary. I don’t agree with a lot of his positions. However, I know that he has integrity and sincerity in his beliefs and I respect him for that.

I am also disappointed in Pike for playing this game. The best she can achieve is to get a Democrat elected as county chair. She has no chance of winning as a write-in. The problem is that having Pike as the party designated write-in smacks of the games the party has played to discredit independent conservatives nationwide. Ask yourself why are presidential candidates Donald Trump, Ben Carson and Carly Fiorina running so high in the polls? It is because they are conservative outsiders and not party hacks.
