Ridgefield — Crews are making repairs to the section of state Highway 501/Pioneer Street between North Smythe Road and North Reiman Road that was eroded by heavy rains in February.

Contractors working for the Washington State Department of Transportation started repairing the hillside that holds the road in place. Traffic has been reduced to alternating through one lane since the erosion happened on Feb. 28 and will continue to be until repairs are completed sometime in mid-May.

The speed limit in the area has been and will continue to be reduced to 25 mph on that stretch of road. After repairs are complete, it will be reset to 40 mph.
