Letter: Reward in salary insults taxpayers

By Tom O'Neal, Vancouver
Published: April 23, 2016, 6:00am

Kudos to Joan M. Tyrrell’s April 17 letter, “A raise is asking too much,” hitting the nail on the head regarding pay raises for the city of Vancouver’s mayor and councilors. Looks like two of the five salary review commissioners got it right in voting for no raise.

How in the world can anyone justify rewarding these folks any raise based on their performances over the past few years? The city/county drivability and appearance are an embarrassment to all of us here. It’s time our management gets their heads out of the sand and starts addressing the road conditions and appearance of our once proud city/county. By the way, don’t we have an ample supply of “inmates” who could be recruited to help out with some of these tasks?
