A woman accused of embezzling thousands of dollars from the La Center Little League over two years pleaded guilty Thursday to theft and destroying evidence to cover her tracks.

Prosecutors accused Liska A. Stokes, 40, of La Center, of stealing and laundering league money while she was the organization’s treasurer, and of deleting financial data from the league’s laptop.

A forensic accountant found she stole between $9,000 and $23,000, according to court records.

The league said at the time most of the missing money appeared to come from concession stand income that never made it to the league’s bank account.

Stokes pleaded guilty to first-degree theft and tampering with evidence.

Clark County Superior Court Judge Scott Collier set Stokes’ sentencing hearing for Sept. 29.

Collier said Stokes could face 90 days confinement for the theft count and 364 days for evidence tampering, along with two years’ probation.
