MEDFORD, Ore. — A California man has been sentenced to 31 years and three months in prison for forcing a young woman into prostitution and raping another girl.

The Medford Mail Tribune reports that 41-year-old Virgil Rucker, of Tracy, Calif., was sentenced Tuesday for 13 felony charges including rape, sexual abuse and trafficking. A Jackson County jury found him guilty last week.

The woman forced into prostitution testified Rucker had trafficked her across the nation for years and subjected her to violence that resulted in multiple trips to the hospital.

At his sentencing Rucker asked the judge to overturn the jury’s verdict. Instead the judge went above the prosecutor’s recommended sentence of 29 years.
