Letter: Trump can put nation on track

I am writing this on Thanksgiving and I am thankful for still being alive at 77 years old.

I have been reading “Our Readers Views” in The Columbian, and they are very negative against our newly elected president. I have watched, on TV, people going to the streets in our cities, turning violent and destroying other people’s property. President-elect Donald Trump won the right to be our president, and he will have to gain our trust daily, and “make America great again.”

Our older politicians, still in office, have stolen from Social Security and replaced the money with IOUs. In 2014, our veterans on disability compensation, at 50 percent, received $822.15 per month, and those at 100 percent received $2,858.24 per month. Do the math — 50 percent should have been $1,429.12 per month.

I hope president-elect Trump won’t sit on his hands like our present politicians do, but it would be like him to increase our national debt by $1 trillion, and put Americans back to work on our roads, bridges, schools, etc., with good-paying jobs now. I hope our president-elect reads this and acts on it.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
