Letter: Herrera Beutler should speak up

By Marcia and Kurt Schekel, VANCOUVER
Published: December 2, 2016, 6:00am

As citizens of the 3rd District, we are asking Congresswoman Jaime Herrera Beutler to be alert to the changes in our White House. We see her as a loyal American who values integrity, community, family and helping others, no matter who they are. We cannot believe she will be OK with Steve Bannon as a close adviser to the president of the United States.

People all over, including her constituents, oppose Steve Bannon’s appointment. We call on her to be one of the lawmakers who is trying to stop a rabid racist and misogynist from getting to the White House. No decent person, Republican or Democrat, should allow Bannon in the highest level of government. We urge our congressional representative to stop putting party over decency.

Congresswoman Herrera Beutler has the power to help prevent Bannon from reaching the White House, starting with publicly denouncing him. We are counting on her to have courage and stand up. We elected her as our voice and know that she can speak up when she wants to. We urge other constituents to let her know — this is the time to speak up.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
