The Skyview boys basketball team headed north looking for experience.
The Storm returned with a championship.
Skyview beat Auburn 55-46 Thursday to win the Under Armour Holiday Tournament at Auburn High School.
Samaad Hector scored 18 points as Skyview (7-3) won its second game in two days. The Storm beat Coeur d’Alene on Wednesday.
Skyview coach Matt Gruhler sought out the Auburn tournament to mimic what his team might face if it reaches the postseason.
“We wanted to play teams we might see if we’re lucky enough to reach the bi-district tournament,” Gruhler said. “We wanted to get in a car and play someone on their floor.”
Skyview used a 17-4 run in the third quarter to take control. Gruhler said Skyview’s guards made excellent passes to Hector, a 6-foot-5 center who made nine field goals Thursday.
