Letter: Invest in preserving national parks

By Theresa O'Neill, Vancouver

The Jan. 30 letter “National parks need attention” from Susan Setterberg regarding the 100th anniversary of the National Parks this year was indeed appropriate and timely. We are fortunate to have these wonderful parks in our country. But we must be vigilant that large and powerful corporations are not allowed to build, develop, mine or log near these parks. To do so would impact the beauty and solitude the national parks offer to all of us. Hopefully, Congress will fully fund the national parks on this 100th year anniversary milestone.

If you wish to support our National Park System, please contact the National Park Foundation, 110 Vermont Avenue, NW, Suite 200, Washington, DC, 20005, or call 202-796-2539, or visit www.nationalparks.org for more information.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
