Columbia River wins 3A regional gymnastics team title

Camas places fourth in 4A regional meet

Columbia River won the team championship at the West Central regional gymnastics championship Saturday at Mount Rainier High School in Des Moines.

River edged Enumclaw 163.325-161.750 for the team title.

River’s Sarah Ellis placed fourth in the all-around at 35.675. She was fourth on beam (9.050), fifth on floor (9.375), sixth on bars (8.850) and eighth on vault (8.4).

Ridgefield’s Kylee Tjensvold was fifth in all-around (35.325), third on floor (9.500) and fifth on beam (9.00) and bars (8.875).

Megan Beatty of of Hudson’s Bay was eighth in all-around (34.425) and ninth on bars (8.100), bars (8.775) and floor (9.250).

River’s Kenzie Moxley was 10th in all-around (33.875), fifth on beam (9.00) and eighth on floor (9.325). Nicole Gorretta also qualified for state by placing eighth on beam (8.95) and tying for fifth on floor (9.375).

Other locals qualifying for state were Ashley Helmold of La Center (vault, beam), Amber Evans of Fort Vancouver (vault, floor), Ali Day of Prairie (vault), Delany Mikelson of Prairie (beam) and Melody Deleon of Hudson’s Bay (floor).

In the 4A regional meet at Skyline High School in Sammamish — which was delayed when a smoky popcorn machine triggered a firm alarm — Camas placed fourth in the team standings at 163.55. Union was sixth (140.675) and Heritage was seventh (125.65).

Jacqueline Purwins of Camas placed tied for eighth in the vault (9.1), tied for seventh on the bars (8.6) and qualified for state in the all-around.
Mountain View’s Alara Jones placed tied for sixth in the floor exercise (9.45).

Camas’ Caleigh Lofstead qualified for state in the vault, bars and beam, Madison Martin on the beam and Emily Karkanen on the bars, beam and floor.

Heritage’s Julia Penttila and Kimyia Jamison also earned berths to the state meet.

Union state qualifiers included Madi Schalk on bars, Kam Schalk on floor and Kylie Weaver on beam, vault and floor.
