Clark County Jail inmate found dead in cell

Corrections officers at the Clark County Jail found a male inmate dead in his cell early Saturday morning.

Officers found the man, who was alone in his cell, at about 1:30 a.m. Saturday. He was unconscious and not responsive, according to a news release from the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.

Corrections officers immediately began CPR and summoned emergency medical assistance. Vancouver Fire Department responded, but the inmate was declared dead, according to the news release.

The man’s cause of death appears to be suicide, according to the sheriff’s office.

Detectives with the Vancouver Police Department’s major crimes unit are investigating.

Police are withholding the identity of the inmate at this time.
