Letter: Taxes paid by varied lifestyle users

In response to Jim Souder’s Feb. 12 letter “Cost of adding lanes wastes taxes,” he seems to be saying that people who ride bicycles do not pay taxes. Huh? Boy is that ever a leap in reasoning.

My husband and I are bicyclists and we know several others. We all have cars, so we do pay vehicle taxes plus a myriad of other taxes that help pay for our roads and bicycle lanes.

I suppose Souder is also becoming angry when he sees sidewalks — you know, those raised concrete paths alongside the road that keep pedestrians safer from cars? According to his reasoning, those people probably don’t pay taxes either — so there is more of his money wasted. I hope he can sleep at night with all that frustration.
