Officers are investigating after a vehicle was damaged by arson last week.

Vancouver police officers were called to the intersection of East 30th and Bridge streets in the Rose Village neighborhood about 1:10 a.m. Friday.

A resident in the area heard a loud boom and found that a vehicle parked nearby was starting to smoke, Vancouver Police Department spokeswoman Kim Kapp said. Arriving officers found the unoccupied vehicle engulfed in flames.

An officer thought the fire was suspicious because it started inside the vehicle’s cabin, rather than inside its engine, Vancouver Fire Department spokesman Joe Spatz said. A crew on a fire engine responded and put out the flames, he said.

The arson investigation team, which consists of police and members of the Vancouver Fire Marshal’s Office, is following up on leads.
