Woodland — Woodland High School students in Karla Bickmore’s Language Arts classes participated in an essay project titled “This I Believe” in which the students shared their thoughts on a variety of personal topics. “I heard some students this year say the project made them feel closer to their classmates after finding out things they never knew about one another,” Bickmore said in a release from the district. “The project ends up providing a cathartic experience for the students to talk about themselves and their experiences.” Bickmore got the idea from an NRP segment with the same title, and said she hopes it will become a yearly assignment. The students read their essays in front of their classmates and a panel of judges, who picked the top three essays from each class. Those students then staged another reading of their work.
