Weather Eye: Get outside and enjoy the summery weather while it lasts

We have settled into a brief enjoyment of summer weather which began Wednesday. It will peak today and end Friday so get out and enjoy. By Friday night another pesky trough of low pressure currently along the western Canadian coastline is forecast to sag southward and set up encampment over the Pacific Northwest. This happens as the East Coast is preparing for sweltering heat conditions.

This pattern will last into next week and keep our high temperatures close to normal and slightly below. That means highs in the 70s with clouds and bouts of maybe drizzle or showers. I’m not placing much emphasis yet on the rainfall but not your typical mid-July weather.

Despite this cooler-than-average weather pattern lately we are only 1.3 degrees below normal on the average mean temperature. Rainfall is less than average, also. I continue to get reports of some red tomatoes ripening in the local gardens.

I enjoy this type of weather, not being a heat lover. Between 70 and 80 degrees and I’m fine. No need for air conditioning, which keeps the electric bill down. I know every time I say that those of you who enjoy the hot weather wince. And for that I am sorry, as no hot weather is heading our way in the near future.

Today will satisfy those that do like it over 80 degrees, with the forecast predicting about 82 or so. The year of the green tomato? Nah. We still have a whole month of potential August heat to get through. That will require a major weather pattern shift. We’ll see about that.
