Letter: Clinton no great leader

Last Tuesday night, the Democratic convention erupted in celebration that Hillary Clinton had broken the glass ceiling. For the first time in U.S. history an unashamed crook had been nominated to run for POTUS. When “Tricky Dick” Nixon was exposed for his shenanigans, the nation mourned, but Clinton’s nomination brought tears of joy, similar to our experience eight years ago when Barack Obama was nominated as the first African-American candidate. How exciting that the U.S. will get another entry in the Guinness Book of World Records.

I would like to add a new truism to phrases such as “Absolute power corrupts …” Mine is “Great empires all reach a point where they can no longer raise up great leaders.”

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
