East Vancouver — Veda Samos, 11, was named one of the Children’s Cancer Association’s 2016 Heroes. Veda started experiencing seizures last year and was placed in a medically induced coma for more than two months. Tests revealed that she had leukemia, and after 20 rounds of chemotherapy, she is in the maintenance phase of her treatment plan. Veda likes writing, playing music and singing, and she frequently jams with specialists from MyMusicRx. She likes helping others, and wants to become a veterinarian or start a nonprofit to help kids. She is one of 12 heroes being honored for “their exceptional courage, wisdom, and grace in the face of serious medical challenges,” according to a release from the association.
