A pedestrian escaped serious injury after being struck by a van at a Hazel Dell intersection Friday morning.

A van was traveling east on Northeast 78th Street and was turning south on Northeast 13th Avenue at about 9 a.m. Friday, according to the Clark County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Sgt. Fred Neiman.

A pedestrian was crossing 13th Avenue, and the van stopped abruptly to allow the person to cross, Neiman said.

The driver of a tractor-trailer also traveling east on 78th Street didn’t see the other vehicle stop for the pedestrian and crashed into the back of the van, Neiman said. The van was then pushed into the pedestrian.

The pedestrian, whose name was not released, was taken to a hospital for injuries described as not serious. The driver of the tractor-trailer, 36-year-old Scott Barham of Salem, Ore.,was cited for suspicion of following too closely.
