To our Port of Vancouver commissioners: So, now has our point been made? Oil trains are rolling bombs, unsafe at any speed.
The oil train derailment in Mosier, Ore., on June 3 only serves to point out how easy it is for these oil-bearing trains to put our lives in peril as well as contaminate our beautiful Columbia River. Imagine this same scenario in Vancouver. Imagine that black cloud of smoke in front of our lovely new future waterfront development. Imagine the blackened buildings. Imagine the people who might be injured or die from being burned by or from inhaling that thick smoke. Imagine how the tourists will flee. Imagine the businesses that would pull out of Vancouver. Imagine the costs involved in reparations.
Please, just imagine, and deny any further concessions to Vancouver Energy and cancel their contract.
