SPRINGFIELD, Ore. — A Thurston High School senior recently selected “Student of the Year” has been arrested on disorderly conduct and weapons charges after a student told police the teen brought a gun to school.
The Register-Guard reports the disorderly conduct charge appears related to threatening text messages allegedly sent by 18-year-old Joel Craig. He was held for questioning Wednesday as Springfield police got a warrant to search his vehicle.
Jail logs show Craig was booked Thursday on a charge of possessing a firearm in a public building.
The latest edition of the Thursday High newspaper includes an article about the Elks Lodge naming Craig its “Student of the Year.” The article says the student was honored for the effort he has put into serving the community.
