The Washington State University Extension office will offer an informational session on a program for people with pre-diabetes on how to reduce their risk for Type 2 diabetes.

The session, which will provide information about the “Not Me” Diabetes Prevention Program, will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Heritage Farm, 1919 N.E. 78th St. in Vancouver.

The event will describe the program in detail, how to qualify and register, and more.

Trained coaches work with program participants to achieve their lifestyle goals. Session topics include how to make healthy food choices, deal with excuses for not following through, eat out or enjoy vacations, and stay motivated.

Recent graduates of the program have lowered their cholesterol and blood pressure and reduced medication intake. They also have lost between 5 and 11 percent body weight, reducing their risk of diabetes, according to a press release.

A person’s risk for diabetes includes a family history of diabetes, history of gestational diabetes, being 45 or older, and being overweight and physically inactive. To know your risk score, take the quiz at clark.wsu.edu

For more information about the session, contact Sandy Brown at 360-397-6060 ext. 5700 or email at browns@wsu.edu.
