Letter: Rights stripped by proposed laws

I hope Americans are paying attention. The Democratic Party proposes legislation to limit several of your constitutionally guaranteed rights. They have violated their oath to protect and preserve the Constitution and, regardless of your political affiliation, they should pay a heavy price at the ballot box for this betrayal. They have asked to strip you of your constitutional rights based on a private list (so-called terror watch list) that you cannot review, cannot appeal and allows for no due process. I remember when we were all considered innocent until proven guilty.

They (Democrats primarily) have chosen to avoid all fact-based research, of which there is plenty, that proves gun control will not affect crime. As a solution they are blaming law-abiding citizens, disparaging a group devoted to protecting your rights and trotting out the same tired argument, all while figuring the American people are just too dumb to understand that “assault rifle” is a term that they have assigned because it invokes much emotion. A true “assault rifle” is fully automatic and has been restricted since the 1960s.

Some of you feel a change like this may be good for America; remember they already took your right to privacy. I hope you still feel good when they come for your right to assemble or your freedom of speech. Remember this moment when you gave away all that makes us free and that millions have died to protect, all in the name of political correctness.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
