The Camas School District and Educational Service District 112 received grants for computer science education from Washington STEM and Washington’s Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction. Each of the 28 schools and districts awarded grants must partner with private organizations and individuals to raise a one-to-one match, doubling the size of the grant.

Camas requested $10,000 for an elementary school coding program at Helen Baller and Woodburn, which, if successful, the district would then roll out to its other elementary schools, according to an email from Doreen McKercher, district spokeswoman.

McKercher also wrote that the district is still seeking its matching funds to secure the grant, but won’t have an answer on whether or not the funds came through until the end of this month.

ESD 112 requested $265,295, and obtained some of the match, but is still working on getting the rest of it. The district requested money to create a hub of computer science professional learning technology and resources to make sure all students have access to computer science.
