Letter: Racism emerges from closet

Finally, something good has come out of this WWE smack-down of a Republican Party primary. Despicable racists, who have been beaten back into the shadows over the last few decades, have raised their ugly heads and become news once again. They seem to feel that the rhetoric of the Republican presidential candidates is affirmation of their beliefs, leading them to become emboldened enough to be vocal again. Whites complaining that we’re losing this country to nonwhites.

What’s good here is the affirmation that racism still exists. It does exist, and it’s at its worst when it feels that America is for whites only. This country is great because it embraces everyone, even those who feel that others are less superior to them for the sole reason of the color of their skin or their religious beliefs.

So please, once and for all, let’s quit the charade that racism is a thing of the past. It’s clear that at least a small portion of white America holds fast to hatred and bigotry.
