Letter: Any amount of help changes lives

By Ruslan Primachenko, Vancouver

I’m pretty sure that once in a while when you go outside you see a homeless person or even two. To the sad part, Vancouver has close to 700 homeless people, and as many as 200 are individuals who are found living outside in a temporal “build it yourself” project.

Although there are many reasons for the increased rate of homelessness, the most dominant reason why families or individuals have lost their living is due to foreclosures. Even if a homeless family or an individual gets lucky and finds an available affordable rent, odds are they will get rejected by picky landlords due to their bad credit record.

There are numerous ways and solutions for how to solve this common cause. One of the propositions is building a community that will team up, provide resources, and help by volunteering. Regardless of how many hours you choose to offer, this amount will make an unbelievable transformation in the lives of homeless people, and in your own community.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
