Three people were taken to a hospital Sunday after back-to-back vehicle crashes on Interstate 5 about 4 miles north of Vancouver.

The first crash took place around 1:45 p.m. Parisa Arianpour, 31, of Ridgefield was driving south in the left lane when she lost control of a Ford Focus hatchback on the wet roadway, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The car veered left, struck an inside barrier, then veered right across all lanes of traffic and went off the roadway, the state patrol reported.

Moments later, a southbound Jeep Liberty driven by Lorraine Lahti, 72, of Woodland, braked to avoid the crash, Lahti lost control of the vehicle, and the Jeep struck a freeway barrier, according to the state patrol.

Arianpour, Lahti and Lahti’s passenger, 78-year-old Woodland man Robert Lahti, all sustained injuries and were transported to Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center, the state patrol said.

All three were treated and released from the hospital Sunday, according to hospital staff.

According to the state patrol, speed caused both crashes, and Arianpour and Lorraine Lahti each were cited for traveling too fast for conditions.
