SEATTLE — A helicopter rescue crew tried again on Tuesday morning to reach a Mount Rainier climber caught in a story over the weekend.
Mount Rainer National Park spokeswoman Patti Wold told The Seattle Times the helicopter could not land at the climbing camp at Camp Muir because of high winds. The crew will make another attempt on Wednesday.
The 58-year-old Norwegian man is presumed dead by park officials.
The climber and his partner, a 41-year-old Canadian woman, were summiting the 14,410-foot glaciated peak when a fierce winter storm hit Saturday. On Sunday, the woman descended the mountain and climbers escorted her to Camp Muir.
She and a man showshoeing alone who also got caught in the storm have both been airlifted off the mountain.
