PORTLAND — An 84-year-old woman died in a Southeast Portland house fire and a second person was injured.
KATU-TV reported that the woman suffered serious injuries in the fire early Saturday morning.
Portland Fire & Rescue successfully pulled her from the home within minutes of arriving at the scene. But it was too late and she was pronounced dead.
A second person was found in the backyard after making it out safely. That person suffered serious smoke inhalation and was taken to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center.
Firefighters say the blaze also extended to a neighboring home, but they were able to limit the damage to just one side.
Fire Chief Ken Burns says it was a sad reminder of how quickly these tragedies can happen.
