I was waiting for the other shoe to drop on U.S. Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler’s, R-Camas, oil terminal stance, but I realize she is not wearing any shoes. By supporting and asking for first-responder handouts as high priority, she has admitted to a number of things that should scare the residents of Vancouver to death.
First, the oil terminal is a physical menace. Clearly preparing for a disaster of epic proportion is an admission that her stance on the oil terminal is not in our best interest.
Second, if her concern is to provide jobs, we must question her choice of job creation. EMTs and undertakers are not the jobs our residents need.
The attitude that the railways that feed our Port of Vancouver are like a gigantic colon going through some of the most beautiful sights in our land only to dump its load onto our fair toilet is not the attitude we want from our elected officials. We can do better and we must elect those who will keep us safe from toxic firestorms by telling the port commission to “just say no” to Tesoro-Savage. After all, that was a Republican slogan from the wife of one of their stars.
