Central Park — The Vancouver NAACP is holding a Juneteenth T-shirt design contest for kids younger than 18 who live in the Vancouver area. Entries must be original and represent Juneteenth and what it means. Designs have to be submitted through the group’s Facebook page or emailed to pddbm1@yahoo.com by 11:59 p.m. June 4 with the subject line “June T-shirt contest.” This year’s Juneteenth celebration will take place from noon to 3 p.m. June 18 at the Marshall Center, 1009 E. McLoughlin Blvd., Vancouver. The winning entry of the contest will be announced and sold at the event, which will also feature a sweet potato pie contest, food and entertainment. Before the event, there will be a presentation, “Supporting Success For Black Students” hosted by Black Lives Matter at 11 a.m. at the center. Juneteenth is a celebration commemorating the ending of slavery in the United States.
