Bomb threat at York Elementary one of many around country

Deputies with the Clark County Sheriff’s Office responded to a bomb threat at York Elementary School, one of many bomb threats made to schools around the country and the United Kingdom.

The school secretary at took a phone call from an automated voice saying there was a bomb in the school, just after noon, Sgt. Chuck Christensen said.

The school evacuated the building by pulling the fire alarm, sending 550 kids into the field behind the school, Christensen said.

Six deputies responded to the school, located at ., and swept the building but did not find anything suspicious.

Similar threats were reported around the United States and, with evacuations reported from New England to Wisconsin and California. Several international media outlets also report threats made to at least a dozen schools in the United Kingdom.

In Colorado, two elementary schools in Parker and Pueblo County were evacuated but other schools that got what were described as automated threats remained in session. In New Hampshire, police say at least four schools were evacuated..

A spokeswoman for the Colorado Division of Emergency Management, Micki Trost, says the threats made Monday appear to be related to the ones made at schools across the country.
Recent previous threats made against multiple districts including Los Angeles and New York City have turned out to be hoaxes.

In the Pacific Northwest, elementary schools in Long Beach, Longview and Portland also received threatening phone calls prompting similar responses by area law enforcement.

Christensen said he didn’t know if the local threat was related to the others, but said that deputies would investigate the incident as best they could.
