WHITE SALMON — A public hearing on a proposal to expand the Klickitat Canyon Natural Resources Conservation Area will begin at 6 p.m. Nov. 17 at the White Salmon Fire Department, 119 N.E. Church St.

The proposed addition is approximately 2,400 acres in one parcel adjacent to the existing site, which is 1,516 acres. The state commissioner of public lands must approve the boundary proposal for the Department of Natural Resources to acquire the land.

The state has money from the federal Forest Legacy program to buy the land. The program is to protect forest land permanently.

Written comments will be accepted through Nov. 23.

Written comments may be mailed to Washington Department of Natural Resources, Attn: Proposed Klickitat Boundary, PO Box 47014, Olympia, WA, 98504-7014; or emailed to AMPD@dnr.wa.gov. For additional information, call Curt Pavola at 360-902-1032.
