GEARHART, Ore. — The owner of a barn in Gearhart will no longer be able to hold commercial events at her property until it meets city code and occupancy requirements.

The Daily Astorian reports that a Clatsop County judge on Wednesday upheld the city’s request to prohibit the Neacoxie Barn from hosting weddings or special events.

City officials say Shannon Smith has been renting the barn out without a conditional use permit or a building occupancy permit and she has racked more than $30,000 in fines.

Smith has argued that she submitted plans and fees to the city for a building permit, but the city refused to review them.
