Letter: Democrats can blame themselves

By Tony Sassone, VANCOUVER

If you are lamenting the election and you supported Hillary Clinton in the primary in a state that put Clinton on the Democratic ticket, you only have yourself to blame. The other choice was a stronger horse in all respects.

What the Democrats did in the primaries was to choose a three-legged horse. The polls from Day 1 showed Bernie Sanders would have beaten every Republican by double digits, including Donald Trump. They nominated a person that nobody liked; she had political and legal baggage, she was a warmonger and was clearly a tool of Wall Street. The people wanted a president that they perceived was not part of the corporate establishment. Clinton is the establishment, and putting her in the general election was politically ignorant.

Sanders would have blown Trump out of the water in a populist movement that was sincere. So if you are one of the big voting blocks in states that put Clinton over the top, you are responsible for putting this buffoon in power. Ironically, the voting blocks that supported Clinton in the primaries may be the ones adversely affected by Trump’s right-wing agenda the most.
