I was unpleasantly surprised to read in the Sept. 25 story “Discovering the Discovery Corridor” that the Fairgrounds Neighborhood Association is sponsoring an event promoting the rapid development of land near my home. Having seen the negative effects of corridor development of land to the north and south of the fairgrounds area, and seeing the tremendous amount of construction already underway, I fail to see any benefit to creating even more road congestion, noise and related problems in the area.
Several years ago, this same neighborhood association lobbied very strongly in opposition to the county’s plan to develop an amphitheater at this same location. In that case, they held meetings, informed their members and planned the association response before strongly opposing the project based on issues which included traffic, noise and crime. None of this was done in this case, and many association members had no idea that a proposal was even contemplated by the association. I’m not sure why Bridget Schwarz, president of the neighborhood association, would say that “We need the Silicon Forest,” but I suggest that she may find it in San Jose.
