Letter: I-732 helps protect the future

Will people be fishing on the Columbia River in 40 years? Will Northwest forests be tinderboxes? That depends on our actions today.

Initiative 732 would limit global warming by taxing greenhouse gas pollution. The money raised would lower the sales tax 1 cent, fund a low-income tax rebate, and lower taxes on clean manufacturing. That means higher incomes for poor households, so that everyone can afford the transition to renewable energy. The Sightline Institute found I-732 would be revenue neutral. The initiative would help ensure that prosperity, salmon runs and healthy forests will be there for our kids and grandkids.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
