Father Blanchet — Why didn’t the chickens cross the road? At Mike Kyle’s house, it’s most likely because they were waiting at a bus stop. Kyle and his family were looking to buy some chickens, but had nowhere to put them. He looked at chicken coops, but didn’t find any at the quality he wanted. He looked up plans for building one, but it was a little too expensive after pricing out the materials. He hopped on Craigslist, looking for something to repurpose as a chicken coop and found exactly what he needed: an old C-Tran bus stop. “It was perfect, because it already has a roof and I knew that I could add to it for a bigger space,” Kyle wrote in an email. “I bought the bus station shelter from a scrap metal place and brought it home in the back of my old Ford truck. They had a fork lift put it in, and it took four guys to get it out and move it to the right spot.” Kyle wrote that he and his family reused some of the plexiglass for a window and used a few sticks for some natural effect for the perch. It took about a month to put together, but the coop is now set up and home to four chickens: Twinkle Toes, Angel, Rosie and Miss Mohawk.
