BOTHELL — The Bothell city prosecutor has charged a high school teacher who confessed to staging an assault against himself in a woodshop classroom with two gross misdemeanors.
KING-TV reports (http://kng5.tv/2cwJrbB ) that the City of Bothell says the prosecutor charged Cal Pygott on Friday with making a false or misleading statement to a public servant and with obstructing public officers.
Police transcripts say 63-year-old Pygott was attempting suicide, but was spotted by another teacher after he changed his mind. He told police he made up the attack story to keep his reputation.
If convicted, Pygott could face 364 days in jail and a $5,000 fine for each charge. Pygott is expected to answer to the charges Sept. 20.
The Northshore School District placed Pygott on paid administrative leave and has filed a misconduct complaint against Pygott.
