The Washington State Patrol is investigating after a man was found lying in the roadway of state Highway 500 Sunday night.

The incident occurred just before 9 p.m. Sunday on the highway west of Andresen Road, Washington State Patrol Trooper Will Finn said. The incident first was reported as a vehicle crash involving a pedestrian, according to emergency dispatch logs.

Finn said that troopers arrived to find a man lying in the roadway with scrapes and a fractured hand, and it wasn’t immediately clear why he was there on the ground.

“The male was extremely intoxicated and did not cooperate with (emergency medical services) or troopers at the scene,” Finn said.

The injured man was taken to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center for treatment and evaluation of injuries, Finn said. Troopers have not been able to interview him because he was sedated upon arrival to the hospital, Finn said.

Troopers are working to determine if the man was involved in a crash, was pushed from a vehicle or if something else happened, Finn said. The man did not appear to be associated with any vehicle in the area.

Anyone with information about the incident or who was in the area at the time is are asked to call State Patrol Detective Jennifer Ortiz at 360-449-7948.
