The precious life moments that become our most prized memories slowly vanish with Alzheimer’s disease. Right now, no one survives it, but I’m working to change that.
Alzheimer’s disease is the third-leading cause of death in Washington. More than 110,000 people are living with Alzheimer’s disease in our state, with more than 335,000 people — usually close loved ones — caring for them.
Alzheimer’s is the sixth-leading cause of death in the United States, killing more than breast cancer and prostate cancer combined. It’s the only disease among the top 10 without a cure or a means to slow its progression. While there have been some promising recent clinical trials, there is no proven treatment.
Let’s change that!
As a member of the Alzheimer’s Association Oregon Chapter Leadership Board of Directors, I am joining the Walk to End Alzheimer’s on Sept. 10, where several thousand people will gather at Portland International Raceway. This is a moving, empowering event and a call to action to be leaders in this fight to find a cure.
Please join me on Sept. 10. Let’s all work toward a better world: a world without Alzheimer’s. For more information, visit alz.org.
