Letter: Get to the root with dental care

Our state has done great at supplying the less fortunate in our community with health care. Due to these laws, most people can receive the health care they need. There is a big problem, though. We separate dental care from health care.

Dental care is crucial for every American, and the fact that our health care laws don’t include free dental insurance along with its free health insurance makes no sense. This has created a state that dictates whether you will have a healthy mouth based on your class.

When you have an infection in your mouth, gum disease or tooth decay, this can quickly affect your whole body. Specifically, infections tend to affect the heart. If state health insurance covers treatment of heart diseases, why not cover the treatment that gets to the root of the problem (pun intended). Fixing the problem in the mouth eliminates the chance of the bacteria continuing to affect the heart. Seems like preventive health care to me.
